This is the first post, I'm using it to test my setup, but I'll also say a few words about the software behind this blog. This blog runs on zim. I love zim as a personal note-taking app, the fact that it can generate static websites is just a bonus.
One more test: an equation:
Praise for Zim as a desktop wiki
Here are the things I love about Zim as a desktop wiki:
- WYSIWYG editing with minimal formatting
- Cross-links between notes
- Mostly, I use cross-links to break a large amount of information into smaller notes. When a note becomes too big, I convert it into an overview, with links to pages with details on a specific sub-topic.
- Organize notes in a hierarchical structure
- Don't get overwhelmed by a big list of everything you ever wrote down, with no context for when and why you were writing this.
- Attachments
- Attachments are saved in the same directory as the note they are attached to, which helps me organize my data.
- Because zim is a "desktop" wiki, you can open/edit attachments using whatever software you normally use to work with that kind of files.
